About us

We love what we do. In a unique place where we put our hearts and souls into creating special moments that guests will never forget.

History

A place with roots

FloraAlpina was built between 1938 and 1941 and is surrounded by a unique park designed by Swiss landscape architect Gustav Ammann. His concept combined exotic and native plants to create a living work of art in nature.

To this day, this special environment continues to shape our hotel and our approach: architecture and nature in harmony, complemented by genuine hospitality and attention to detail. This is where tradition and mindfulness come together—for unforgettable experiences that linger in the memory.

History

From vacation home to lakeside hotel

Following the introduction of new vacation regulations for workers in the 1930s, the SMUV sought out places for them to relax. In addition to mountain retreats, the Floralpina vacation home was built in Vitznau—a lakeside retreat that combined community and relaxation.

History

A home for everyone

Between 1938 and 1941, architects Theiler and Helber created not a hotel, but a cozy home. With its gabled roof, bay windows, and balconies, the building blended harmoniously into the landscape—a place where everyone should feel welcome.

History

Inauguration in turbulent times

The holiday home was opened in July 1941, in the midst of World War II. Despite the uncertain situation, there was a sense of optimism. Thanks to its own garden and livestock, the home was self-sufficient—a symbol of strength and solidarity.

History

Change and growth

In the 1950s, Floralpina became the SMUV training center. Renovations in the 1980s and 1990s created modern seminar and guest rooms. After it was sold to the Koch family in 2012, numerous investments followed—from a wellness area to a terrace lounge.

History

Nature as heritage and inspiration

Gustav Ammann's garden continues to shape the house to this day. Its composition of walking paths, fruit trees, and quiet seating areas creates a harmonious connection between people and nature. FloraAlpina remains a place where history, landscape, and hospitality come alive.
